-
00:00:00Good morning everyone and welcome to Friday Morning.
-
00:00:02It's Stephen Whiteside here from the uptrend.com in the pre market this
-
00:00:07morning, stock index futures are trading above fair value.
-
00:00:10We do have some economic numbers coming out at 8:30.
-
00:00:13That could certainly change that.
-
00:00:15We also have gold trading higher on Friday morning.
-
00:00:19I printed off a couple of weekly charts this morning just to see where we were.
-
00:00:24And for the week, the Dow is up just .16 percent or 55 points.
-
00:00:29The S&P 500 is up .02% and possibly putting in a bearish reversal week.
-
00:00:35We just have to see how Friday ends then.
-
00:00:38Looking at the Nasdaq 100, a little more strength there, up a quarter of a percent.
-
00:00:43Now last week we put in a bearish reversal
-
00:00:45week, so that signal is going to stay there until we close above last week's
-
00:00:50high, which of course we haven't done so just yet.
-
00:00:53Then the TSX not looking very good here.
-
00:00:57Possible bearish reversal week.
-
00:00:59We're down zero .79%, so less than 1%.
-
00:01:03But we ran up to resistance and looks like
-
00:01:06that resistance is still holding us in check.
-
00:01:09And if we look at the pros and the public across the bottom, starting with the Dow S
-
00:01:14and P 500, Nasdaq 100, and then looking at the TSX, you can see the TSX is the
-
00:01:20weakest of the major indices that we follow.
-
00:01:24Now looking at the fear index, it had a wild day yesterday.
-
00:01:27It got pushed down to new lows on US GDP news and then ran right up and ended the
-
00:01:34day on a buy signal off of news from the bank of Japan.
-
00:01:38Now we are still under the Fly Paper
-
00:01:40Channel, so nobody's going to get overly anxious just yet.
-
00:01:45The VIX is starting to trend higher.
-
00:01:47We'll have to see if that trend continues on Friday.
-
00:01:50And of course, if we start breaking out above the Fly Paper channel, that would
-
00:01:54certainly be a big negative sign for the market.
-
00:01:57Now it was news from the bank of Japan
-
00:02:00that caused the market to shake in the afternoon.
-
00:02:03The Japanese yen moved up.
-
00:02:05We saw huge moves in other currencies,
-
00:02:07including the US dollar index, which traded all the way down to the lower
-
00:02:11channel line yesterday before breaking out above this week's high.
-
00:02:15Similar situation in the opposite direction for the euro.
-
00:02:19So a lot of movement there.
-
00:02:21And then we saw bond yields, whether
-
00:02:22you're looking at the five, the ten or the 30 year bond yields, all moved up
-
00:02:27yesterday and that's what shook the market.
-
00:02:30Looking at the price of gold, it was down yesterday over $24.
-
00:02:34It is up $9 last time I checked in.
-
00:02:36The pre market price of silver also came down back on a sell signal.
-
00:02:41And so when we look at the Dow, the Dow
-
00:02:43traded down to the upper channel line yesterday, so holding up fairly well.
-
00:02:47Looking for a close on Friday below 349.35 then looking at the SPY, we're looking for
-
00:02:55a close on Friday below 450.53 to give us a sell signal for the Nasdaq 100.
-
00:03:01And again, we're looking to see if we can
-
00:03:03break out above last week's high to get rid of that bearish reversal signal.
-
00:03:07We're still on a buy signal here that
-
00:03:09would change on Friday with a close below 375.64.
-
00:03:13Semiconductors still on a sell signal, no change there.
-
00:03:16There is news in the semiconductor sector
-
00:03:18this morning with intel coming out with earnings.
-
00:03:20And of course, the numbers I'm going to
-
00:03:21talk about are old by the time you see this video.
-
00:03:25But we're coming into Friday on a buy signal.
-
00:03:28We're trading up over 7% in the pre market.
-
00:03:31And if we look at our next price target, we are trading above that right now.
-
00:03:36So if you've got an order in at 35.94, that's going to get filled at the open.
-
00:03:40Our next mathematical target is 37.50, but
-
00:03:43we're trading just under the high from back in June of 37.11. So I wouldn't have
-
00:03:50had an order in at 37.50. I would have had it in just below the 30 7.11 area, and
-
00:03:56that could possibly get filled this morning after the market opens.
-
00:04:01Now, the TSX pulled back yesterday.
-
00:04:02It closed below the previous day's low, which is not a good sign.
-
00:04:06And so on Friday, we're looking for a
-
00:04:07close below 30.95. We are trading higher in the pre market this morning, so we'll
-
00:04:13have to see how the market reacts after those economic numbers come out.
-
00:04:18Again, we're coming up to month end, so
-
00:04:20automatic money is going to hit the market.
-
00:04:22That usually provides a cushion if there is any significant bad news.
-
00:04:27Now, I got a question yesterday about Ark
-
00:04:29Innovations and the ETFs have traded with the market.
-
00:04:34No doubt about it.
-
00:04:35They've had a nice move up on Ark Innovations.
-
00:04:38You can see across the bottom of the
-
00:04:39screen when we had low risk buying opportunities.
-
00:04:41I've got no problem with anybody trading any of the Arc Innovations ETFs.
-
00:04:45My criticism has always been about her
-
00:04:48money management skills and the fact she gave up all of this profit.
-
00:04:52The ETF was trading up at 160. Yesterday
-
00:04:55, it closed at 46.80. That's where my criticism is.
-
00:04:59Her stock picking skills are pretty incredible.
-
00:05:02She's somebody interesting to follow.
-
00:05:03But she did leave all that money on the table.
-
00:05:08Looking at commodity prices, crude oil
-
00:05:11made a new high for this move, heading up to the highs from back in April.
-
00:05:15We've got gasoline making a new closing
-
00:05:18high yesterday, not a good sign for the inflation picture.
-
00:05:21And natural gas pulled back yesterday.
-
00:05:23It's back on a sell signal.
-
00:05:25Natural gas, of course, known as the hardest thing to trade.
-
00:05:28Looking at the TSX energy sector, we ran
-
00:05:32up to our next price target at 15.63. This is where we topped out in April.
-
00:05:37We pulled back that gave us a bearish
-
00:05:39reversal signal, did not close below the previous day's low.
-
00:05:42So not overly concerned just yet.
-
00:05:45Similar price pattern for the US.
-
00:05:48For the spider ETF.
-
00:05:50We're trying to get to 87. 50.
-
00:05:52We're able to do that in April.
-
00:05:53We were not able to do that yesterday.
-
00:05:56And again, while prices reversed, we didn't close below the previous day's low.
-
00:06:00Always one of the first things I look for.
-
00:06:03Now, the GLD rolled over yesterday,
-
00:06:05joining Palladium already on a sell signal.
-
00:06:08Platinum is back on a sell signal, so is the price of Silver.
-
00:06:12And then we've got gold stocks in the GDX rolling over.
-
00:06:15Back on a sell signal.
-
00:06:17The SIL is back on a sell signal and the
-
00:06:20XGD is back on a sell signal as of Thursday's close.
-
00:06:25Let's finish off with a quick look at technology stocks starting on the TSX.
-
00:06:29BlackBerry is still on a sell signal.
-
00:06:31Constellation Software still on a buy signal.
-
00:06:34That would change on Friday with a close below yesterday's low.
-
00:06:37Lightspeed still on a sell signal.
-
00:06:39Shopify still on a sell signal.
-
00:06:41No change there.
-
00:06:42Now, Apple reversed yesterday, still on a
-
00:06:45buy signal here that would change on Friday with a close below 191.76. Amazon
-
00:06:51drove up to the upper channel line yesterday before reversing and closing
-
00:06:55just up a dime on the day, so no change in trend.
-
00:06:58Meta, of course, was the big news
-
00:07:00yesterday, but that is a very bearish looking bar.
-
00:07:04We did trade higher and then came back.
-
00:07:06We actually closed below our price target,
-
00:07:08311.10. And that's a bearish sign of bearish reversal day for Meta for sure.
-
00:07:15And if we look at what the pros and the
-
00:07:16public are doing, they're not going in the right direction right now.
-
00:07:20So, looks like we had some short covering
-
00:07:23yesterday and then some selling going into the close.
-
00:07:27Similar situation for Alphabet.
-
00:07:29On Thursday, it popped, on Wednesday, it got some fall through to the upside at the
-
00:07:34open, but then ended the day just up $0.13. So we ran up, hit our next price
-
00:07:40target at 131.25, and that is holding us in check at the moment.
-
00:07:45Yesterday was a bearish reversal day for
-
00:07:47Alphabet, and you can see the pros and the public not going in the right direction.
-
00:07:52Now, Microsoft made a new low for this move, as did Netflix.
-
00:07:56Nvidia traded through the upper channel
-
00:07:58line during the day, but came back and closed in the channel.
-
00:08:01So no buy signal just yet for Nvidia.
-
00:08:04That could change on Friday with intel trading up in the pre market.
-
00:08:07And last up, Tesla ended the day lower still on a sell signal.
-
00:08:11Things would change on Friday for Tesla with a close above 277.33.
-
00:08:17Okay folks, that is all for this morning's presentation.
-
00:08:20Have a great day.
-
00:08:21Next time you'll hear my voice is on Sunday.
