00:00:00Good morning, everyone. Welcome to Tuesday morning.
-
00:00:03It's Stephen Whiteside here from theuptrend.com in the pre market
-
00:00:06this morning, things are looking fairly bullish.
-
00:00:08We've got the Dow futures up about 200 points.
-
00:00:11Commodities are mixed,
-
00:00:13natural gas and gold are higher, while crude oil is lower on Tuesday morning.
-
00:00:18Well, Monday was an interesting day.
-
00:00:20The Dow diamonds, the SPY ETF,
-
00:00:23and the Q's for the Nasdaq all made new highs and then closed lower on the day.
-
00:00:29So they all generated bearish reversal signals.
-
00:00:31What they didn't do is they didn't close below the previous day's low.
-
00:00:35That would have been a much more of a bearish signal.
-
00:00:39Now, the Canadian market did not make
-
00:00:41a new high yesterday and did close below the previous day's low.
-
00:00:45So things looking a little weaker there for both the TSX and the TSX 60.
-
00:00:51Now, while the stock index futures pulled back yesterday,
-
00:00:53we saw the VIX close slightly higher still closing below the lower channel line.
-
00:00:59So not concerned on Tuesday.
-
00:01:01Things, of course, would change if the VIX were to close above $26.24 on the weekend.
-
00:01:08We talked about following the US dollar index.
-
00:01:10It closed slightly higher yesterday inside day, no major changes there.
-
00:01:15And then the Chinese market has come back quite a bit over the last week or so.
-
00:01:21We're looking at the eye shares for the Hong Kong market.
-
00:01:24You can see the gaps on the screen.
-
00:01:26You expect to see gaps in charts for anything that is traded
-
00:01:30in North America that is following something overseas.
-
00:01:33You've always got that time gap
-
00:01:36which shows up in the charts as a nice big white space.
-
00:01:39So we've seen a huge recovery in the Chinese market.
-
00:01:43A lot of it has to do with the rumors
-
00:01:45that they're going to reduce the COVID restrictions and there might do something
-
00:01:49about all the banking problems that they've got.
-
00:01:52And one of the biggest problems they have,
-
00:01:54which they're not able to really do much about, is the water shortage.
-
00:01:58There's a huge drought in China and that is not only affecting drinking
-
00:02:03water, but a lot of their electricity comes from hydroelectric dams.
-
00:02:07And with the river levels at historic
-
00:02:11lows, that seems to be a problem at the moment.
-
00:02:14So we may see some huge blackouts in China over the winter.
-
00:02:19Now, looking at what's going on this
-
00:02:21morning, well, Walmart is out with earnings.
-
00:02:23And Walmart came into today on a sell signal, generated a sell signal four days
-
00:02:28ago, and you can see yesterday they traded it down with the rest of the market.
-
00:02:32In the pre market this morning, we are up over the 43.75 resistance level,
-
00:02:37which has held us in check for the past few weeks.
-
00:02:40And we're up there at 47.66 last time I checked.
-
00:02:44Of course, that number fluctuates every
-
00:02:46second, but we're getting pretty close to the 150 level,
-
00:02:49which is not only a daily target, but it's also a weekly target.
-
00:02:55While Walmart is up.
-
00:02:56Some of the other retailers are also trading higher this morning.
-
00:02:59Target, TJ, Maxx, they're all up in the pre market.
-
00:03:03What's not working in the pre market, or should I say what is not consistently
-
00:03:07working in the pre market this morning is Home Depot.
-
00:03:10Last time I blinked, it was down.
-
00:03:12It's been up, it's been all over the place this morning.
-
00:03:15So Home Depot may open lower on Tuesday,
-
00:03:19but not enough to give us a new cell signal.
-
00:03:23Now, chips have done really well over the last couple of weeks, and of course,
-
00:03:28I love watching the chip sector move higher.
-
00:03:30That is inspirational.
-
00:03:32This morning we find out
-
00:03:33that Warren Buffett's company has put $4 billion into Taiwan Semiconductor.
-
00:03:38And that news
-
00:03:40has taken Taiwan Semiconductor up over 10% in the pre market this morning.
-
00:03:46So obviously Warren Buffett's not worried about China invading Taiwan anytime soon.
-
00:03:51Let's finish off with a quick look at commodities and crude oil.
-
00:03:55Still on a sell signal.
-
00:03:56Trading lower in the pre market this morning.
-
00:03:58Inside day yesterday for natural gas trading higher in the pre market.
-
00:04:03Then we've got copper making a new high yesterday before pulling back.
-
00:04:06That's a bearish reversal.
-
00:04:07Day again, not closing below the previous days low.
-
00:04:11There's gold making a new high yesterday.
-
00:04:15Gold's getting up, trying to take out the 1781.25 level.
-
00:04:20If we can do that.
-
00:04:21If you look over to the left, you can see in August we had a nice
-
00:04:25cluster of resistance up there between 1781.25 and 1812.50.
-
00:04:32So gold may struggle to move higher from here unless there is a major event.
-
00:04:37And there's silver making a new closing high yesterday,
-
00:04:40getting pretty close to the 22.50 level, which is our next target to the upside.
-
00:04:46Okay, folks, that's all for Tuesday morning.
-
00:04:48Looking for higher prices today.
-
00:04:50Everybody seems to be happy.
-
00:04:52I hope you have a happy day.
-
00:04:53Next time you'll hear my voice is on Wednesday morning.
