Description
-
00:00:00This is what the new screen of Adacity looks like
-
00:00:08This is an updated version of what you might have
-
00:00:12And you'll notice that you no longer have a drop-down menu below the Play and Record buttons that show you where your microphone is or some of the other audio settings, the volume and microphone levels
-
00:00:34And so I'm going to show you where those are exactly
-
00:00:38First of all, you need to set up the preferences
-
00:00:43So you would go to Edit, Preferences
-
00:00:49This is still the same way that you do this as it would be in the older versions
-
00:00:59And you can hit Devices here and make sure in the Channels it says Mono
-
00:01:07Default is Stereo
-
00:01:08You want it to be Mono
-
00:01:11You don't necessarily have to change your recording device
-
00:01:14But this time you can do it later and that might change depending on what type of microphone you're using
-
00:01:21So I wouldn't necessarily change this right now
-
00:01:29And then when you go down to Quality, you want to click on or select 32,000 Hertz
-
00:01:41The default is 44,100 Hertz
-
00:01:46You don't want that
-
00:01:47You want it at 32,000 Hertz because it will not import into Abacus if you don't have it set at 32,000 Hertz
-
00:01:58If you're working on the portal, then that will accept the 44,100 Hertz
-
00:02:06But this program will not
-
00:02:08So just set it up properly to get the proper settings to begin with
-
00:02:13You want it to 16-bit best for the sample rate converter
-
00:02:21Dither you want none
-
00:02:24And again down below here in both real-time conversion and high-quality conversion, you want the settings to best quality and none
-
00:02:36So best none, best none
-
00:02:38Just OK
-
00:02:41And you've got your settings all set
-
00:02:44Again, we don't see where those microphones are
-
00:02:49So you go over here to the middle of your screen, just to the left of the middle, and you'll see an audio button
-
00:02:56So you drop down where that little carrot is and you'll have these settings
-
00:03:04Now the host you would normally see down below in the older versions, playback device, that's there and the recording device, which is what you need to see to make sure that you're using the proper microphone
-
00:03:21I'm using a Yeti here
-
00:03:23Sometimes I use a Samsung Go mic most of the time, and that's what you'll be clicking and selecting here if you need it
-
00:03:32Now if for some reason the microphone is not showing, then it is because you have not started the program with the microphone plugged in
-
00:03:46So you need to exit out of the program, plug in your microphone if you haven't already, and then open it back up again, and then it will already be there
-
00:03:59It will be in the selection
-
00:04:03So again, if it's not there, it's because you've opened the program without the microphone being plugged in
-
00:04:10So stop the program by clicking the X up in here in the upper right hand corner, and then restart the program, and then it'll be here to select
-
00:04:21The sample rate down in the bottom left hand corner should now be at the correct setting
-
00:04:29If you go out and come back in, that will be at 32,000
-
00:04:34It will stay there
-
00:04:37Get yourself in the habit though of always checking down there just to make sure that nothing has changed
-
00:04:45And then you can start recording your voice
-
00:04:48And what you don't want is something that is too loud, which shows a lot of red
-
00:04:55So watch for that
-
00:04:59And then you can come in here, and you can get rid of all of those silent places
-
00:05:06You can just click the delete button
-
00:05:11You don't have to work
-
00:05:12Look for the scissors
-
00:05:15So just highlight that and hit delete, and it will be fine
-
00:05:23So this should give you an idea of how you do the new audacity
-
00:05:29If you want to know what version you're in, hit help, about audacity, and it will show you the version here
-
00:05:39This one is version 3.2.4
-
00:05:45They all work the same
-
00:05:47It's just that it might be that you don't see the controls where you did before
