-
00:00:00Good morning everyone and welcome to Thursday Morning.
-
00:00:03It's Stephen Whiteside here from
-
00:00:05theuptrend.com in the pre market this morning things are positive once again.
-
00:00:09Dow future is currently up 70 points.
-
00:00:12We are expecting PPI numbers to come out at 8:30 this morning.
-
00:00:16And that of course could add to the volatility.
-
00:00:19Yesterday we saw the US dollar collapse
-
00:00:22and closed below the lows from back in April of this year.
-
00:00:26So you can see we put in a lower high last week.
-
00:00:30Now we're putting in a lower low this week
-
00:00:32that's bearish for the US dollar, which of course is bullish for the Euro.
-
00:00:37Now with the collapse in the US dollar, we
-
00:00:38are expecting precious metals to continue to move up.
-
00:00:41And that's exactly what happened yesterday for gold and silver.
-
00:00:45And that's also what happened for gold and silver stocks.
-
00:00:48Whether you're looking at the GDX or the XGD, they both popped yesterday.
-
00:00:53Of course gold stocks moving up could certainly help the Canadian market.
-
00:00:58And the TSX 60 is now back on a buy signal.
-
00:01:01Outside of the TSX 61 of the stocks that
-
00:01:04led the TSX higher was Laurentian Bank which looked like this on Tuesday and
-
00:01:09ended Wednesday looking like this, up over 26% on the day.
-
00:01:13Not a stock I follow, but congratulations
-
00:01:16to anyone who currently owns Laurentian Bank.
-
00:01:20Looking at what worked yesterday.
-
00:01:22Well on the TSX, it was materials were the
-
00:01:24big winners, followed by utilities and that's what utilities looked like.
-
00:01:28Big update yesterday.
-
00:01:29So it's back where it was four days ago and back in the channel.
-
00:01:33So no change in trend.
-
00:01:35Looking at the US market, did the Dow put in a double top yesterday?
-
00:01:39Well two bearish reversal signals up at the same level.
-
00:01:43That is maybe what happened.
-
00:01:45We'll just have to wait and see.
-
00:01:47The Dow is trading higher in the pre
-
00:01:49market this morning ahead of those PPI numbers.
-
00:01:52New high for the S&P 500, new high for the
-
00:01:55Nasdaq 100 and a new high for semiconductors.
-
00:01:58What worked in the US?
-
00:01:59Well it was communication services
-
00:02:01followed by utilities and then followed by materials.
-
00:02:06So there's the communication services making a new high yesterday.
-
00:02:10There's utilities still on a buy signal here, unlike Canadian utilities.
-
00:02:14But they were up yesterday, not taking out the high from last week.
-
00:02:18But we'll have to see if we can do that on Thursday.
-
00:02:21Now looking at those big cap tech stocks
-
00:02:23that we love to follow, Amazon is back on a buy signal, but Apple is not.
-
00:02:28So we need to close above yesterday's high
-
00:02:30on Thursday to get Apple back on a buy signal.
-
00:02:33Similar situation for Alphabet which
-
00:02:36traded up to the upper channel line yesterday but did not close above it.
-
00:02:40Meta on the other hand broke out to a new high on Wednesday.
-
00:02:44We have Microsoft still on a sell signal that would change on Thursday with a close
-
00:02:50below above $339.15. Then looking at Nvidia new high for Nvidia.
-
00:02:57And then we've got Shopify back on a buy signal on both sides of the border.
-
00:03:02And then last up, Tesla.
-
00:03:03Very quiet day for Tesla.
-
00:03:05Still on a buy signal here.
-
00:03:07No change in trend.
-
00:03:09Okay, folks, that is all for this morning's presentation.
-
00:03:12I wanted to get this out before the PPI numbers come out.
-
00:03:15We're also getting jobless claims at 830 this morning, so both of those could
-
00:03:19certainly add to pre market volatility on Thursday morning.
-
00:03:24Enjoy the rest of your day.
-
00:03:25Next time you'll hear my voice is on Friday morning.
