00:00:00In this tutorial, I'm going to be showing you how to connect your domain to your website as well as purchasing an SSL certificate so that your website will be secure
-
00:00:12Once you have fully built your website and it is ready and complete, then you're going to want to go to Options and go to Name, Domain and SSL
-
00:00:25From here, you can domain your website and purchase a SSL
-
00:00:30The first thing you need to do is put the full domain for the website in here and save and update the website
-
00:00:37Once you do that, it will generate an A record and see name for that website
-
00:00:43Now, keep in mind, this A record is considered unsecure so if you were to use this specific A record, visitors to your site would see an unsecure website and an HTTP website instead of the secure
-
00:00:59HTTPS that you want with your SSL certificate
-
00:01:03So let's go ahead and purchase an SSL certificate before we connect so that we can connect our secure website
-
00:01:10Click the button here and enter your information in order to purchase your SSL certificate
-
00:01:15Once you've purchased your SSL certificate, it will then generate your certificate with a new secure A record as you can see right here
-
00:01:25In order to connect your website, simply take this A record and copy it
-
00:01:32You then need to go to your domain registry where you have purchased your website
-
00:01:36We're using GoDaddy for this example, but the steps should be the same for most domain registries
-
00:01:43Simply go to the DNS settings for your domain and find the A record value
-
00:01:51Here, you can edit your A record and replace whatever value they have with the new one that was generated for your site
-
00:02:00Save and update the site and this will update the DNS settings
-
00:02:10Keep in mind it may take a few minutes for that to become fully connected and it may take several hours for the SSL to fully connect and for the website to show as secure, but it
-
00:02:22should connect within a few minutes for the actual A record itself
-
00:02:27So go back to the platform and remember to save and update after you have connected your A record
-
00:02:40After you save and update your website, double check to make sure the SSL certificate is active and enabled and then save and update the website a second time
-
00:02:50They may sound like a strange step, but it should be done in order to ensure that everything is connected properly and that the SSL is indeed enabled
-
00:03:00If for any reason you have a warning telling you to check your records, then you should double check to make sure that the A record in the platform is indeed the same as the domain registry
-
00:03:14and the DNS settings
-
00:03:15As long as everything is the same, it may just take a few extra minutes in order for everything to connect on the back end
-
00:03:22So save and update regularly until the certificate is enabled
-
00:03:28If it is not enabled within 24 hours, then double check the records to make sure it's all the same and then contact support for more help
-
00:03:37Once everything is connected, you can then visit your website and you'll see that the site is now active
-
00:03:43If you wish to have a www version
-
00:03:47of your website, then you can connect the C name
-
00:03:51Normally this is automatic and most domain registries will already have this connected
-
00:03:57But if you wish to have the www in
-
00:04:00front of your website, make sure that the name of the website is also in the C name records for your domain registry
-
00:04:08As long as that is all connected, you can go to either the regular URL or the www version
-
00:04:16and it'll take you to the same website
-
00:04:19And that's how easy it is to connect your domain and purchase your SSL certificate
