-
00:00:00Good morning everyone and welcome to Wednesday morning.
-
00:00:03It's Stephen Whiteside here in the pre
-
00:00:05market this morning things are fairly quiet.
-
00:00:07Stock index futures are slightly below
-
00:00:09fair value, but not enough that anyone will notice.
-
00:00:13Commodities are also mixed and very quiet in the pre market, so not looking for a
-
00:00:17lot of excitement at 9:30 Wednesday morning.
-
00:00:21Now the VIX moved up yesterday, but not enough to give us buy signal.
-
00:00:25That would happen on Wednesday with a
-
00:00:27close above 15.03. And of course if that were to happen, that would change our
-
00:00:33outlook on the market from short term bullish to short term bearish.
-
00:00:37Now the VIX of the VIX is on a buy signal
-
00:00:40right now and moved away from the channel yesterday.
-
00:00:43So that could be an early warning signal.
-
00:00:45We'll just have to keep an eye on that.
-
00:00:48Now the Dow was down just under three
-
00:00:50quarters of a percent yesterday, it traded and closed in the channel.
-
00:00:54So we certainly have a mathematical
-
00:00:56possibility of a sell signal on Wednesday with a close below 338 three.
-
00:01:02Then what didn't work on the Dow?
-
00:01:05Well, the biggest loser was intel with a big outside reversal day.
-
00:01:08We saw some aggressive selling in Nike
-
00:01:11which pulled us back into the channel, and some very aggressive selling in Boeing,
-
00:01:15which is now back on a daily sell signal as of Tuesday's close.
-
00:01:20The S&P 500 was down on the day just a little over half a percent.
-
00:01:25Still trading and closing above the upper channel line.
-
00:01:27The Nasdaq on the other hand, was down just a little over a quarter of a percent.
-
00:01:32And those big cap tech stocks are still holding us up.
-
00:01:36Semiconductors pulled back into the
-
00:01:38channel, so a close below 212.16 would give us a sell signal on Wednesday and
-
00:01:43that certainly wouldn't help the overall market.
-
00:01:47Nvidia and Tesla both closed higher on the
-
00:01:50day, new closing high for Nvidia and a big new closing high for Tesla.
-
00:01:56Then looking at regional banks, they are
-
00:01:58back on a sell signal as of Tuesday's close.
-
00:02:01And of course we're not trading the
-
00:02:03regional banks, we're just keeping an eye on them.
-
00:02:05But yeah, we're back on a sell signal.
-
00:02:07Not a good sign for the overall market.
-
00:02:10Now looking at the Canadian market, we are
-
00:02:12back on a sell signal as of Tuesday's close.
-
00:02:15Being Led lowered by gold stocks, followed by materials, then the energy sector and
-
00:02:21then the global mining stocks all pulled back yesterday.
-
00:02:25So commodities not helping the Canadian market at all.
-
00:02:29Now looking at gold stocks, the biggest
-
00:02:31one of course is Barrack, which made a new closing low yesterday.
-
00:02:35We also saw a big aggressive selling in Wheaton.
-
00:02:39Then looking at Manual Life, the most
-
00:02:41actively traded stock on Monday, we were looking to see if it could hold $25.
-
00:02:45It did not.
-
00:02:46So looking for Manual life to continue lower from here.
-
00:02:49And the most actively traded stock
-
00:02:51yesterday was CIBC, which is now back on a sell signal as of Tuesday's close.
-
00:02:56We also saw Suncor sell off.
-
00:02:58It is also back on a sell signal as of Tuesday's close.
-
00:03:02Now we've been keeping a close eye on the TD bank, which is still on a buy signal.
-
00:03:06And of course it moved up to the top of the open gap and started to pull back.
-
00:03:11Not an aggressive pullback so far on
-
00:03:15Wednesday we're looking for a close below 79.19, otherwise we're looking to see if
-
00:03:20we can break out above 81.25. Let's finish off today's presentation.
-
00:03:25Looking at commodity prices and we saw a
-
00:03:28small pullback for copper, but still on a buy signal.
-
00:03:31No change there.
-
00:03:33Gold had a new closing low yesterday, so
-
00:03:36we are down a couple of dollars in the pre market, but not aggressive selling.
-
00:03:40Then looking at silver.
-
00:03:42Silver rolled over on Tuesday.
-
00:03:43It had been on a buy signal for the month of June and that ended yesterday.
-
00:03:49Then looking at the energy sector, we had a small pullback in crude oil.
-
00:03:53No change in trend.
-
00:03:54And a big reversal day for natural gas.
-
00:03:58Putting in a bearish reversal.
-
00:04:00That's where we topped back in May with a bearish reversal signal.
-
00:04:04The pros did take control.
-
00:04:06Natural gas is actually up in the pre market this morning.
-
00:04:09Not enough to erase yesterday's losses,
-
00:04:12but we're not seeing continuation to the downside on Wednesday morning.
-
00:04:16And then looking at corn.
-
00:04:18Corn to making a new high yesterday before closing unchanged.
-
00:04:22And Wheat moved up and made a new high for this move on Tuesday.
-
00:04:27Okay folks, that is all for this morning's presentation.
-
00:04:30We're looking for a fairly quiet open at 9:30 Wednesday morning.
-
00:04:35Have a great day.
-
00:04:36Next time you'll hear my voice is on Thursday morning.
