00:00:00Good morning, everyone. Welcome to Friday morning.
-
00:00:02It's Stephen Whiteside here from theuptrend.com in the pre market
-
00:00:05this morning, stock index futures are above fair value.
-
00:00:08Dow futures currently up about 180 points, while yesterday the VIX traded
-
00:00:13in the channel but ended the day closing slightly lower.
-
00:00:17A close above 25.71 would give us a buy signal on Friday.
-
00:00:22The US. Dollar index climbed slightly higher
-
00:00:24yesterday, looking for a close above 109.29 on Friday.
-
00:00:28Not expecting that to happen.
-
00:00:30Now, the market reversed off intraday lows yesterday.
-
00:00:34Remember, we were starting off on a very
-
00:00:36negative tone on Thursday morning, but the markets recovered.
-
00:00:40There's the Dow Diamonds closing up $0.03 after dipping in the channel.
-
00:00:44The SPY ETF and the Q's both dipped
-
00:00:47into the channel but recovered at the end of the day.
-
00:00:50There's the iShares for the Russell 2000
-
00:00:53bouncing off the lower channel line, closing in the middle of the channel.
-
00:00:56And there's the iShares for the TSX 60
-
00:00:59trading in the channel and then recovering and going into the close.
-
00:01:03So the market had a nice recovery yesterday.
-
00:01:06If you remember,
-
00:01:07we were looking at the crude oil yesterday, looking for support at 81.25.
-
00:01:11We got that the crude oil actually closed at 81.40 yesterday.
-
00:01:16So if we start breaking down from here, then $75 is our next target.
-
00:01:22Now, energy stocks, they also recovered nicely yesterday.
-
00:01:25There's the iShares for the TSX energy sector closing just two cent above
-
00:01:30the lower channel line, but a much bigger recovery in the US.
-
00:01:34Where the SPDR energy ETF actually closed slightly higher on the day.
-
00:01:40Now, yesterday we were talking about
-
00:01:43Tesla, and Tesla is still holding last week's low.
-
00:01:45So that gives us some hope.
-
00:01:47On Friday, we're looking for a close above 201.44.
-
00:01:50It was down another just a little over 2% yesterday.
-
00:01:54Now, I know some Tesla nuts that think Tesla is the only stock you need in your
-
00:01:59portfolio, and I would strongly argue against that.
-
00:02:03Yes, it has potential to go back up.
-
00:02:06Yes, it is certainly a tradable
-
00:02:08instrument, but is not a be all and end all.
-
00:02:11If you want a reference point,
-
00:02:13if you want to get a good reading, it's a dated book now,
-
00:02:18but it still talks about the same things that are going on today,
-
00:02:21and that's the book is called Crossing the Chasm by Jeffrey Moore.
-
00:02:25And it talks about all the innovative
-
00:02:27companies that have led the world in technology.
-
00:02:30And of course, they don't actually end up being the winners in the end.
-
00:02:36And you can go back in time.
-
00:02:37You can look at Xerox,
-
00:02:39you can look at personal computers, you can look at cell phones.
-
00:02:42There's all kinds of technology references that we can go back and look at.
-
00:02:48And Tesla has certainly been the leader
-
00:02:50in the electric vehicle space and automated selfdriving,
-
00:02:55but they probably will not be the winner in the end.
-
00:02:59Now, speaking of Tesla, ARK Innovations was in the news yesterday.
-
00:03:04If you had a choice,
-
00:03:05if you were a bank and you were going to create a new product,
-
00:03:08would you create it with this or would you create it with that?
-
00:03:13This is Berkshire Hathaway.
-
00:03:14This is ARK Innovation. ETF.
-
00:03:17Let me show you those again. There's.
-
00:03:18ARK Innovations. There's.
-
00:03:19Berkshire hathaway.
-
00:03:21You're going to create a new partnership.
-
00:03:23You're going to create a new ETF for your customers.
-
00:03:26Which ones do you choose?
-
00:03:28Well, the bank of Montreal went with ARK innovations and they're creating new ETFs.
-
00:03:35I have no idea why, but that's exactly what they're doing.
-
00:03:38And that's probably why I don't work for a bank.
-
00:03:42Now, Apple is still on a buy signal.
-
00:03:44Amazon is still on a buy signal, but barely.
-
00:03:47We need to close below 94.29 on Friday to give us a sell signal for Amazon.
-
00:03:52We are coming up to Black Friday.
-
00:03:54It doesn't look like people's expectations are very high for Black Friday for Amazon.
-
00:04:00Now, I own both of those.
-
00:04:01I also own Goldman Sachs, which helps smooth out the results over time.
-
00:04:07Now, chips are still doing well.
-
00:04:09They had a nice recovery yesterday, closed higher on the day.
-
00:04:13So we're still on a buy signal for Advanced Micro Devices for Intel,
-
00:04:17for Nvidia, and then, of course, Taiwan Semiconductors.
-
00:04:21There are big news out that Warren Buffett
-
00:04:23had taken a position in Taiwan Semiconductors recently.
-
00:04:27And let's finish off with Gold.
-
00:04:29Gold looks like it's starting to put in a rounding top here.
-
00:04:33There's the iShares
-
00:04:34for the TSX Global Gold Index trading back in the channel yesterday.
-
00:04:39We need to close on Friday below 1587.
-
00:04:42And then for the Gold miners,
-
00:04:43ETF for the GDX, it closed right at the upper channel
-
00:04:47and looking for a close on Friday below 26 39.
-
00:04:51Okay, folks, that's all for this morning's presentation.
-
00:04:54Looking for a higher open on Friday.
-
00:04:57Enjoy the rest of your day.
-
00:04:58Enjoy your weekend.
-
00:04:59Next time you'll hear my voices on Sunday.
-
00:05:02And at that time, we'll take a closer look at the weekly charts.
