-
00:00:00Good morning everyone and welcome to Thursday morning.
-
00:00:03It's Stephen Whiteside here in the pre market this morning, stock index futures
-
00:00:07and commodities are trading below fair value.
-
00:00:09So so far it looks like we are going to
-
00:00:11see some selling at the Open on Thursday morning.
-
00:00:14Let's start off this morning's presentation looking at the VIX.
-
00:00:17And the VIX made a new closing low
-
00:00:18yesterday, so options traders are not phased by anything going on.
-
00:00:23Looking for a close on Thursday above 14.88 to give us a buy signal.
-
00:00:27Now we did see a pullback in chip stocks
-
00:00:30and we've got the SOX Index back on a buy signal as of Wednesday's close.
-
00:00:34We also have cloud computing stocks and social media stocks back on sell signals.
-
00:00:40Now looking at the chip sector, Advanced
-
00:00:42Micro Devices is on its third day of a sell signal.
-
00:00:45We've seen intel a pullback for the past
-
00:00:48couple of days and yesterday it closed down at the lower channel line.
-
00:00:53So a close below 32.88 would give us a sell signal on Thursday.
-
00:00:58And then we've got Texas Instruments back on a sell signal.
-
00:01:01As of Wednesday's close, Nvidia is still
-
00:01:04holding up fairly well, trading above the upper channel line.
-
00:01:07Things would change on Thursday with a
-
00:01:09close below 402.36. Then looking at the QQQ's, they traded back into the channel.
-
00:01:15So we certainly have a possibility of a sell signal in the queues on Thursday with
-
00:01:20a close below 358.18. Then looking at Canadian tech stocks, they
-
00:01:25have rolled over and are back on a sell signal.
-
00:01:28It's not Shopify, which could end Thursday on a sell signal.
-
00:01:32We've got BlackBerry making a new low on Wednesday, we've got Constellation
-
00:01:36Software back on a sell signal, we've got Lightspeed back on a sell signal.
-
00:01:41Then we've got Nuvei making a new low for this move.
-
00:01:44So it's been on a sell signal for over a
-
00:01:46month now and we've got OpenText making a new low for this move and Telus
-
00:01:52International also making a new low for this move.
-
00:01:56Then looking at the DOW, it traded back into the channel again.
-
00:02:00So down to the lower channel line, we need
-
00:02:03a close below 338.38 on Thursday to give us a sell signal for the DOW.
-
00:02:08For the SPY, we're looking for a close
-
00:02:10below 431.69. And then looking at the Russell and the Ishares for the NMicrocap
-
00:02:17sector, both trading down to the lower channel line.
-
00:02:20So we could certainly see sell signals in both of those two sectors.
-
00:02:23On Thursday, looking at the Canadian market, second day of a sell signal, we've
-
00:02:28filled the open gap, so that's no longer potential support.
-
00:02:32Yesterday's big loser was the Real Estate sector.
-
00:02:35And of course this has a lot to do with interest rates.
-
00:02:39Canadian real estate making a new low for this move.
-
00:02:42You can see Choice made a new low yesterday.
-
00:02:46It actually recovered and closed slightly higher on the day.
-
00:02:49Crombie making a new low new low for Rio Can.
-
00:02:52A big sell off yesterday for Northwest Healthcare down over 11% on the day.
-
00:03:00Now, speaking of interest rates, the bank
-
00:03:02of England raised their benchmark interest rate this morning, and that's helping put
-
00:03:06downward pressure on stock index futures this morning.
-
00:03:10Looking at the SPDR Financial ETF, we're
-
00:03:13still on a buy signal that would change on Thursday with a close below 32.95. We do
-
00:03:19have US banks and US Regional Banks on sell signals.
-
00:03:23We've got the Broker Dealers back on a sell signal as of Wednesday's close.
-
00:03:27And then we're looking at insurance stocks which actually closed higher on the day.
-
00:03:32Looking for a close below 32.65 on Thursday to give us a sell signal.
-
00:03:37Canadian financials rolled over yesterday.
-
00:03:39Canadian banks back on a sell signal as of Wednesday's close.
-
00:03:43We've been watching manualife breakdown this week.
-
00:03:46Heading lower.
-
00:03:47We've got Sun Life back on a sell signal.
-
00:03:50We've got Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce CIBC back on a sell signal.
-
00:03:54We've got Laurentian Bank back on a sell signal.
-
00:03:57TD bank still holding up.
-
00:03:59We're looking for a close on Thursday below 79 34.
-
00:04:04Let's finish off this morning's presentation.
-
00:04:06Taking a look at commodity prices and no
-
00:04:08joy, no change in trends from Wednesday's trading action.
-
00:04:12We had a new low for the GLD.
-
00:04:14It's trading lower in the pre market this morning.
-
00:04:17The SLV has gapped lower for the past two
-
00:04:19days and starting to trade below the May low.
-
00:04:22Looking at stocks, the Ishares for the
-
00:04:25global TSX Global Gold Index made a new low yesterday.
-
00:04:29New low for the GDX, new low for the SIL.
-
00:04:33And then looking at energy, we had crude oil move up yesterday.
-
00:04:36It's trading lower this morning.
-
00:04:38We had natural gas trade up. Having an inside day.
-
00:04:40It's trading lower this morning.
-
00:04:42So we don't expect much movement in energy
-
00:04:45stocks, whether you're looking at the Canadian or US market on Thursday.
-
00:04:50Okay, folks, that is all for this morning's presentation.
-
00:04:53We are expecting some selling at the open on Thursday morning.
-
00:04:56Have a great day.
-
00:04:57Next time you'll hear my voice is on Friday morning.
