-
00:00:00Good Morning, everyone, and welcome to Thursday morning.
-
00:00:02It's Stephen Whiteside here from theuptrend.
-
00:00:05com.
-
00:00:05In the pre market this morning, stock index futures are higher across the board,
-
00:00:09being led higher by the Nasdaq, and the Nasdaq is being led higher by Meta.
-
00:00:14Now, the DOW continued to move higher on
-
00:00:16Wednesday and continued its record breaking streak.
-
00:00:20Now, we're back hitting the record books from 1987.
-
00:00:24If you don't remember, we had a nice big major crash in 1987.
-
00:00:29It'll be interesting to see if we can end
-
00:00:32the year without a major pullback like that.
-
00:00:36Now, I'm more interested in the DOW Transports than the DOW itself.
-
00:00:39The DOW Transports continue to move higher, up nearly 3 % on the day.
-
00:00:44Now, in the pre market this morning, Meta
-
00:00:45is trading up above the upper channel line.
-
00:00:48If it ends the day up there, of course, that would generate a new buy signal.
-
00:00:52It'll be interesting to see if Meta can
-
00:00:54trade and hold levels above the recent high.
-
00:00:58Mcdonald's is also trading higher in the premarket this morning.
-
00:01:01If it ends the day where it's trading
-
00:01:02right now, that would give us a new daily buy signal.
-
00:01:05Notice the resistance across the top of the screen.
-
00:01:08We made a high back in May and have tried
-
00:01:10several times to break out above that high.
-
00:01:12It'll be interesting to see how traders handle that on Thursday.
-
00:01:17And for Canadian investors, Celestica,
-
00:01:19which trades in New York, is up nearly 30 % in the premarket.
-
00:01:23So we're looking for a Celestica to pop on the TSX on Thursday.
-
00:01:29Looking at the VIX, the VIX is still on a
-
00:01:31sell signal that, of course, is supportive for higher stock prices.
-
00:01:35Things would change on Thursday with a close above $14.18.
-
00:01:40Now, the Fed made their proclamation yesterday and not a lot of movement in the
-
00:01:44bond market whether you're looking at the TLT.
-
00:01:46If you're looking at emerging market bonds
-
00:01:49or the junk bonds, they traded back to where they were trading on Monday.
-
00:01:53So some selling going into the Fed meeting
-
00:01:56and then they bought them all back on Wednesday.
-
00:02:00Looking at currencies, the US dollar index
-
00:02:02pulled back yesterday back in the channel and the Euro traded up into the channel.
-
00:02:07No change in trend for either currencies.
-
00:02:10Then looking at the major indices, the SPY was up yesterday just by seven cents, but
-
00:02:15it's trading higher in the pre market this morning.
-
00:02:18The Nasdaq traded down to the lower channel line.
-
00:02:20It's been in the channel for the last
-
00:02:22four trading days and of course, that's neutral.
-
00:02:26The Nasdaq is trading higher in the
-
00:02:28premarket this morning, so not overly concerned about a sell signal on Thursday.
-
00:02:32And then looking at semiconductors, they're also trading higher this morning.
-
00:02:36Semiconductors still on a sell signal.
-
00:02:38That had something to do with Texas Instruments yesterday.
-
00:02:41Generally, stocks fall faster than they
-
00:02:43rise, and that's why we like you to lock in profits as a stock is rising.
-
00:02:49And of course, you don't have to liquidate all of your profits.
-
00:02:51If you've been trading Texas instrument,
-
00:02:54of course, you're coming into today's trading action with a partial position
-
00:02:57left, so you should be able to end this trade with a profit or at least break even
-
00:03:03depending on how you traded Texas Instruments.
-
00:03:06Looking at Advanced Micro Devices, just
-
00:03:07treading water here, still on a sell signal.
-
00:03:10Nvidia, still treading water, still in the channel.
-
00:03:13So looking for a breakout or a breakdown on Thursday.
-
00:03:17Looking at the Canadian market, the TSX
-
00:03:19dipped lower yesterday and then ended the day higher by a penny.
-
00:03:23And of course, I'm referring to the ishares for the TSX 60.
-
00:03:27Now looking at financials in New York, we
-
00:03:29traded up being led higher by banks and being led higher by the regional banks.
-
00:03:34Then looking at broker dealers, they treaded water on Wednesday and we saw US
-
00:03:39insurance companies continue to move higher.
-
00:03:42And then Canadian financials traded higher on Wednesday, not taking out the previous
-
00:03:46day's high, whether you're looking at financials or banks,
-
00:03:49but at least they didn't continue to move lower on Wednesday.
-
00:03:53Let's finish off today's presentation taking a look at what worked on Wednesday.
-
00:03:58Starting on the TSX, Rogers popped.
-
00:04:00It's back on a buy signal as of Wednesday's close.
-
00:04:03It traded above the June highs.
-
00:04:05It would be nice to see if we could close above them.
-
00:04:08Then First Quantum dipped into the channel
-
00:04:10yesterday, then ran right up to the previous day's high.
-
00:04:13And Canadian Pacific is trading back up at the May high.
-
00:04:16So now it's a make or break time.
-
00:04:18Do we break out to higher highs or is the May high going to act as resistance?
-
00:04:24Then on the DOW, it was Boeing that
-
00:04:26popped, gave us a buy signal on Monday, popped on Wednesday.
-
00:04:29There's 3M continuing to move higher as we see Home Depot doing the same thing.
-
00:04:35Then on the Nasdaq 100, it was old Dominion Freight.
-
00:04:39So one of those DOW transport components
-
00:04:41followed by Alphabet back on a buy signal as of Wednesday's close.
-
00:04:46Then ADP making a new high for this move.
-
00:04:49And last up, we're looking at the winners on the S&P 500.
-
00:04:52Again, it was a transportation component,
-
00:04:55Union Pacific, followed by the regional banks, Zions, and Key Corp.
-
00:04:59Okay, folks, that is all for this morning's presentation.
-
00:05:03Somebody was asking about an Ursa picture
-
00:05:05the other day, so here's one that we took this week.
-
00:05:08She's doing really well and she's going to have her fourth birthday in September.
-
00:05:14In enjoy the rest of your day.
-
00:05:16Next time you'll hear my voice is on Friday morning.
