00:00:00Good morning everyone, and welcome to Wednesday Morning.
-
00:00:03It's Stephen Whiteside here from The
-
00:00:04UpTrend.com. I'm sorry I missed you yesterday morning.
-
00:00:07I started working on the presentation but
-
00:00:09I just had a massive headache and I couldn't really see the screen.
-
00:00:12So hey, I just went back to bed.
-
00:00:15So sorry about that.
-
00:00:16In the pre market this morning, things are fairly quiet.
-
00:00:19We're waiting for CPI numbers to come out at 8:30 this morning and then we're also
-
00:00:23going to get Ed Energy inventories at 10:30 this morning.
-
00:00:27So a couple of things that could add to the volatility of the market.
-
00:00:31The VIX has pulled back over the past
-
00:00:33couple of days looking for a close on Wednesday below $14.
-
00:00:37We found resistance at 15.63, put in a lower high, which could be bullish for the
-
00:00:43stock market if we start moving down from here.
-
00:00:46And of course, 12.50 is a major area of potential support.
-
00:00:51US dollar index continued to move lower yesterday.
-
00:00:54That may help the commodities this week.
-
00:00:58Then we saw a pullback in bond yields on
-
00:01:01Tuesday and that trend could continue, which could support higher stock prices.
-
00:01:07Now the price of gold is traded up to the
-
00:01:09upper channel line, so certainly a potential of a buy signal on Wednesday.
-
00:01:13We've got gold stocks in the US sitting
-
00:01:17right on the upper channel line, closing $0.04 above it.
-
00:01:21So that is a buy signal for the GDX.
-
00:01:25Still waiting for a buy signal for the Ishares for the Global Gold Index.
-
00:01:30Then looking at the price of silver
-
00:01:31sitting right below the upper channel line.
-
00:01:34Silver stock, similar situation as you can see.
-
00:01:38Depending on which way the market goes on
-
00:01:41Wednesday, we may have a bunch of new buy signals to deal with on Thursday morning.
-
00:01:46Not in the energy sector though, which is breaking out to a new high.
-
00:01:50Looking at the price of crude oil, natural gas is back up in the channel looking for
-
00:01:54a close above 273 to give us a buy signal on Wednesday.
-
00:01:58There's Canadian energy stocks, there's US
-
00:02:01energy stocks both breaking out above the June highs.
-
00:02:04So that looks fairly bullish.
-
00:02:06Then US Financial is making a new high for
-
00:02:08this move and it's a pretty bullish chart, but it does have a lot to do with the big
-
00:02:13banks or the little banks or the broker dealers.
-
00:02:16It has much more to do with insurance companies right now.
-
00:02:19And there's Prudential making a new high for this move.
-
00:02:22Compare that chart to Citigroup and you can see who's beating who.
-
00:02:28Looking at Canadian financials and
-
00:02:30Canadian banks, things are looking pretty neutral right now.
-
00:02:34The best performing Canadian bank is the TD bank.
-
00:02:37We are seeing some selling in the insurance sector.
-
00:02:39We've got Sun Life back on a sell signal,
-
00:02:42joining Manulife, already on a sell signal.
-
00:02:45Now Apple is back on a sell signal as of
-
00:02:48Tuesday's close, joining Amazon, already on a sell signal.
-
00:02:53Meta still on a buy signal.
-
00:02:54No change there no change for Google or Alphabet.
-
00:02:58Making a new low for this move on Tuesday.
-
00:03:00We also made a new low for Microsoft on Tuesday.
-
00:03:03Now Microsoft of course is in that battle
-
00:03:06to buy Activision Blizzard, which got some positive news yesterday.
-
00:03:11So that stock shot higher over 10%.
-
00:03:15Also taking up Electronic Arts which was up over 5% on the day.
-
00:03:19Then looking at Nvidia, we're still treading water up here.
-
00:03:22Very quiet day on Tuesday.
-
00:03:25We also had a very quiet day for Tesla.
-
00:03:27Still trading in the channel, having an inside day or a day of indecision.
-
00:03:32Now looking at the Ishares for the TSX 60.
-
00:03:35We're on a sell signal right now that did not change.
-
00:03:37The Dow Diamonds back on a buy signal, joining the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq and the
-
00:03:42Semiconductors all still on buy signals, so no change there.
-
00:03:47Okay folks, that is all for this morning's presentation.
-
00:03:50It's very quiet out there ahead of the CPI numbers.
-
00:03:53And then of course after the CPI numbers on Thursday, we get the PPI numbers.
-
00:03:57So consumer inflation, then producer inflation.
-
00:04:01Those two numbers should add to the
-
00:04:04volatility that we're going to see in the market this week.
-
00:04:07Enjoy the rest of your day.
-
00:04:09Next time you'll hear my voice is on Thursday morning.
