00:00:00Good morning, everyone, and welcome to Thursday morning.
-
00:00:03It's Stephen Whiteside here from T
-
00:00:05heUpTrend.com In the premarket this morning, things are fairly quiet.
-
00:00:09Both the stock index, futures, and
-
00:00:10commodities are trading right around fair value.
-
00:00:13We are waiting for employment numbers to come out at 8:30 this morning, and they
-
00:00:17could certainly add to the premarket volatility.
-
00:00:21Now looking at the VIX, the VIX is still
-
00:00:23on a daily sell signal that's supportive for higher stock prices.
-
00:00:26That would change on Thursday with a close of above 13.60.
-
00:00:31Now the Nasdaq did end Wednesday on a daily sell signal, and that had something
-
00:00:37to do with Big Cap Tech stocks like Apple and Amazon pulling back on Wednesday, but
-
00:00:42it had a lot more to do with energy stocks, which were down sharply.
-
00:00:46You can see Constellation Energy down nearly five % on the day.
-
00:00:50Energy stocks continued to move lower on
-
00:00:54Wednesday on the back of lower crude oil and natural gas prices.
-
00:00:58If we look at the iShares for the TSX
-
00:01:00Energy Sector, we were looking to see if support at 16 would hold.
-
00:01:05As you can see, yesterday, we crashed right through that.
-
00:01:08We also made lower lows for U.S.
-
00:01:10Energy stocks on Wednesday.
-
00:01:13Now looking at the TSX, it got pulled down
-
00:01:16with weakness in energy stocks and we made an outside reversal on Wednesday.
-
00:01:21We are one day away from a new daily sell
-
00:01:24signal if the market wants to continue lower from here.
-
00:01:28Now last week, we were looking at the
-
00:01:30energy bullboard and looking at the stocks that people were following.
-
00:01:35We see Baytech making a new low for this move.
-
00:01:38We see Crescent Point making a new low and Athabasca making a new low.
-
00:01:43We do have Valeura Energy back on a sell
-
00:01:45signal as of Wednesday's close, joining the big caps, Cenovus Energy, and
-
00:01:50Suncor, which were down again yesterday with Suncor down over five and a half %,
-
00:01:56which is quite a large move for that stock.
-
00:01:59Okay, that's all that I wanted to cover this morning.
-
00:02:01We're waiting to see those employment numbers come out.
-
00:02:04Otherwise, the major indices for the most
-
00:02:07part are still on buy signals, and we've had no major sign of weakness so far.
-
00:02:13Enjoy the rest of your day.
-
00:02:14Next time you'll hear my voice is on Friday morning.
