-
00:00:00Good morning, everyone, and welcome to Thursday morning.
-
00:00:02It's Stephen Whiteside here from theuptrend.com.
-
00:00:06In the pre-market this morning, stock
-
00:00:08index futures are above fair value being led higher by the Nasdaq.
-
00:00:12Commodities are mixed with gold higher
-
00:00:14while crude oil is lower in the pre-market.
-
00:00:17Now, we do have a jobless claims that housing starts coming out at 8:30 this
-
00:00:20morning, and they could certainly add to the pre-market volatility.
-
00:00:25Now, looking at the VIX, the VIX is still on a buy signal.
-
00:00:28That's bearish for stocks.
-
00:00:29Things would change on Thursday if the VIX
-
00:00:31were to close below 12.98. Now, in North America, we are enjoying
-
00:00:37watching our major indices hit all-time highs.
-
00:00:40At the same time in China, the market is continuing to collapse.
-
00:00:44Waps in 2024.
-
00:00:46Probably not a good omen for the rest of the world.
-
00:00:51We've got this particular ETF breaking down below our projected trading range.
-
00:00:56When we look at the Daily Fly Paper channel chart, you can see there was some
-
00:01:00Optimism back in July of last year, but for the most part, the Fly Paper channel
-
00:01:04acted as resistance and continues to point lower.
-
00:01:08So not a good sign, probably not a good
-
00:01:11sign for the rest of the world in 2024, but we'll just have to wait and see.
-
00:01:15Now, Wednesday was a losing day on the
-
00:01:18North American markets, and the markets were led lower by silver miners, followed
-
00:01:22by gold miners, the GDX, the XGD, and then Copper miners were not too far behind.
-
00:01:29And of Of course, if you've got all these
-
00:01:31mining stocks moving lower, that's going to put pressure on the
-
00:01:34Canadian market, and the TSX is back on a sell signal as of Wednesday's close.
-
00:01:39The biggest loser was First Quantum, and we're still on a buy signal here.
-
00:01:44Things would change on Thursday.
-
00:01:45Tuesday, if we close below 12.37.
-
00:01:47And then Pan American Silver was down over 6%, nearly 7% on the day, gapping lower,
-
00:01:54heading down to the lows from back in November.
-
00:01:57Then looking at the TSX 60, we're back on a sell The biggest loser was
-
00:02:01Imperial Oil, which was down over 4% on the day, back on a sell signal.
-
00:02:07Of course, the biggest gold stock is
-
00:02:09Barrick, and Barrick gapped lower on Wednesday.
-
00:02:13And you can see it's trying to hold the lows from back in November.
-
00:02:17Now, the Dow is already on a sell signal.
-
00:02:19The biggest losers yesterday were Walgreens and Caterpillar.
-
00:02:23Caterpillar back on a sell signal.
-
00:02:25The biggest winner was Boeing, which, of
-
00:02:27course, has been dragging the Dow down over the past week.
-
00:02:31It had an inside day.
-
00:02:33It's trying to hold $200.
-
00:02:35If we go back a few weeks and if we were shorting a Boeing, we would have told you
-
00:02:41to take profits at 234.38 and then 218.75. That would have been your playing field.
-
00:02:47We actually gapped down below 234.
-
00:02:5038, and then that acted as resistance.
-
00:02:53And then our next stop was 218.75. And
-
00:02:56then we gapped lower down to the 203.13 level.
-
00:02:59There's Obviously going to be psychological support at the $200 level.
-
00:03:04If we continue lower from here, then 187.50 is our mathematical target, but we
-
00:03:09also have to look back, and there's an open gap that hasn't been filled yet.
-
00:03:14And then we're probably using the high
-
00:03:16from back in October as an area of support at the moment.
-
00:03:20And so there is some obstacles in the way
-
00:03:24before we get to 187.50. And of course, Boeing could start to head up from here.
-
00:03:30That's the first sign that something new
-
00:03:31is happening if we fill that open gap, which is just below the 218.75 level.
-
00:03:37Then looking at the S&P 500, we're still on a buy signal.
-
00:03:41That would change on Thursday with a close below 471.45. The biggest loser was
-
00:03:48Albemarle, and it has continued to move lower.
-
00:03:51It's been on a sell signal since the start of the year.
-
00:03:54Then looking at the Nasdaq, we're still on a buy signal here.
-
00:03:57That would change on Thursday with a close
-
00:03:59below 403.21. The biggest loser on the Nasdaq 100 was CrowdStrike.
-
00:04:05Then looking at the Magnificent Eight, they're still holding up.
-
00:04:08We've still got Alphabet on a buy signal, Amazon on a buy signal.
-
00:04:13In both cases, we traded down to the lower channel line yesterday.
-
00:04:15We did not close below it.
-
00:04:17Apple's still on a sell signal, trying to hold 180.
-
00:04:21181.25 is our mathematical level of support.
-
00:04:25If that breaks, then $175 is our next target to the downside.
-
00:04:29And Of course, if you follow back, what
-
00:04:32was previous resistance back in October is currently acting as support.
-
00:04:37Then looking at Meta, Meta is still on a buy signal here.
-
00:04:40No change, no change for Microsoft.
-
00:04:43No change for NVIDIA.
-
00:04:45Nvidia is now up at our next price target of 562.50. If we can continue higher from
-
00:04:51here, then 593.75 would be our next target.
-
00:04:54And then Shopify trading down into the
-
00:04:56channel yesterday on both sides of the border, still on a buy signal.
-
00:05:00And then last up, we've got Tesla making a
-
00:05:02new closing low for this move on Wednesday.
-
00:05:05Okay, folks, that is all for this morning's presentation.
-
00:05:08So far, the market looks like it wants to
-
00:05:10be buying some tech stocks on Thursday morning.
-
00:05:14At the same time, We do have those economic numbers coming out at 8:30 that
-
00:05:18could certainly change the direction of the market.
-
00:05:21Have a great day, folks.
-
00:05:22The next time you'll hear my voice is on Friday morning.
