00:00:00Good morning, everyone, and welcome to Friday morning.
-
00:00:03It's Stephen Whiteside here from theuptrend.com.
-
00:00:06Well, in Thursday's trading action, not
-
00:00:08only did we get a Tesla sell signal, we also got a Meta sell signal.
-
00:00:12On Thursday, we saw a big spike in the VIX.
-
00:00:15We also saw the US dollar make a new high,
-
00:00:18and we saw all the bond yields pop yesterday.
-
00:00:21That's probably not good for the economy
-
00:00:24and possibly not good for the stock market either.
-
00:00:27We'll just have to wait and see.
-
00:00:29The DOW has traded back down to the August
-
00:00:31lows, unlike the S&P 500, which broke through them yesterday.
-
00:00:36Our next mathematical target is 421.88.
-
00:00:40Then the Nasdaq is holding up a little better, still trading above the August
-
00:00:44lows, unlike the semiconductors, which broke down a few days ago, the iShares for
-
00:00:50the Russell 2000, microcap stocks all well below those August lows.
-
00:00:56Then looking at the TSX, the iShares for the TSX 60 were down sharply, one of the
-
00:01:01biggest drops we've seen in a long time for the TSX on Thursday.
-
00:01:06We've got financials that rolled over.
-
00:01:08One of the biggest reasons the TSX was down sharply yesterday, energy stocks,
-
00:01:13second day of a sell signal, and then gold stocks traded down to the lower channel
-
00:01:17line but did not generate a sell signal just yet.
-
00:01:22Next up, let's take a look at the TSX most actives and a whole bunch of new sell
-
00:01:27signals here, including for TC Energy, which joins Canadian Natural Resources,
-
00:01:32which has been on a sell signal for over a week now.
-
00:01:35Then PowerCorp came down and generated a sell signal.
-
00:01:39Not a stock we usually see at the top of
-
00:01:41the most active list, but notice the lower high here.
-
00:01:44That's a bear sign going forward.
-
00:01:47Cenovus, a second day of a sell signal for Cenovus .
-
00:01:50TD Bank came down hard back on a sell signal.
-
00:01:53Lundin Mining has been on a sell signal all week.
-
00:01:56Then we've got Suncor back on a sell signal as of Thursday's close.
-
00:02:01Then Bank of Nova Scotia came down hard yesterday back on a sell signal.
-
00:02:05We've got Manulife Financial back on a sell signal.
-
00:02:08I was talking about how well the insurance companies have done over the past month,
-
00:02:13and that has come to an end as of Thursday's close.
-
00:02:17Pembina Pipeline down hard yesterday.
-
00:02:19It looks like it came down a lot, but it's only 1.82 %.
-
00:02:24It's just the way this particular stock trades that makes it look like it was a
-
00:02:30huge move down, but in percentage terms, not too bad.
-
00:02:34Unlike Air Canada, which was down another
-
00:02:362.34 %, so Air Canada has been on a sell signal since the middle of July.
-
00:02:42Let's finish off this morning's presentation, taking a look at the most
-
00:02:46actively traded US stocks from Thursday's trading action, starting with Tesla.
-
00:02:51Tesla back on a sell signal as of
-
00:02:53Thursday's close, joining Palantir, which traded down to the August lows yesterday.
-
00:02:59Then we had a big gap down for Amazon, which has now filled the open gap from
-
00:03:03early August, and at the same time creating a new gap
-
00:03:07that we'll have to deal with on the way back up.
-
00:03:11Apple moved lower yesterday, still on a
-
00:03:13sell signal here, trading slightly higher in the premarket this morning.
-
00:03:17Then a new low for Advanced Micro Devices and a very bearish chart.
-
00:03:21Since we peaked back in June, we've made a series of lower highs.
-
00:03:25And so that is, of course, a very bearish chart pattern.
-
00:03:29NIO has been on a sell signal since early August.
-
00:03:32No change there.
-
00:03:34A fairly quiet day for Intel yesterday compared to a lot of other stocks.
-
00:03:39Nvidia made a new low for this move, still holding on to the August lows.
-
00:03:44If those break, then 375 would be our next target.
-
00:03:47Then 375 would take us down to the top of
-
00:03:50an open gap, and the bottom of that gap is down here, the 3.12.50 area.
-
00:03:56That would be quite a move down for not
-
00:03:58only NVIDIA, butfor the overall stock market, if that were to happen.
-
00:04:03Ford is back on a sell signal as of Thursday's close.
-
00:04:06And then one of the DAO components, Cisco, gapping sharply lower yesterday.
-
00:04:12And of course, we filled a gap yesterday so that is no longer in play and we can
-
00:04:18continue to move lower from here on Friday.
-
00:04:21Then American Airlines, just like Air Canada, has had a rough couple of months.
-
00:04:25This sell signal started back in July.
-
00:04:29And then last up, we're looking at Meta.
-
00:04:31Meta is back on a sell signal, joining the rest of its big cap tech stock brothers.
-
00:04:36And we're all back on the sell signal as of Thursday's close.
-
00:04:41Okay, folks, that is all for this morning's presentation.
-
00:04:44Have a great day.
-
00:04:45Next time you'll hear my voice is on Monday morning.
