00:00:00Good morning everyone and welcome to Tuesday Morning.
-
00:00:03It's Stephen Whiteside here from the
-
00:00:05uptrend.com in the pre market this morning things are fairly quiet.
-
00:00:09We're waiting for CPI numbers to come out at 8:30 and of course those numbers could
-
00:00:14influence the Fed meeting which is starting today.
-
00:00:17And so we're expecting things to be fairly
-
00:00:19quiet until the Fed meeting at 02:00 P.m. Wednesday afternoon.
-
00:00:25Looking at the CNN Fear and Greed Index, we're at extreme greed at the moment and
-
00:00:30of course you know that things are very overbought at the present time, so it's
-
00:00:35very risky to buy anything new at these levels.
-
00:00:38Now the VIX moved up yesterday looking for a close on Tuesday above 15.90. So options
-
00:00:44traders getting a little nervous ahead of the CPI numbers.
-
00:00:48Then we had the Dow Diamonds make a new
-
00:00:50high for this move, heading up to the highs from a couple of months ago.
-
00:00:54New high for the S&P 500 for the Nasdaq, 100 on the back of a big move up in chips.
-
00:01:01So Semiconductors still leading this market higher.
-
00:01:04Then looking at the Canadian market,
-
00:01:05nothing going on here, we're treading water in the channel.
-
00:01:09So still on a short term buy signal here.
-
00:01:11If you didn't take that buy signal, then
-
00:01:13of course the next close above the upper channel line would be helpful.
-
00:01:17Breaking down the Canadian market.
-
00:01:19It was the Infotech sector that tried to
-
00:01:22pull us higher, while the energy sector tried to pull us lower.
-
00:01:26Looking at infotech.
-
00:01:27It was Lightspeed followed by Shopify.
-
00:01:29Those were the big winners.
-
00:01:31Looking at the big losers, it was Vermilion traded down to the lower channel
-
00:01:35line, so still looking for a close below 1559.
-
00:01:39And then we've got Athabasca and Cenovus Energy were the next big losers
-
00:01:43and both of them are back on sell signals as of Monday's close.
-
00:01:48Looking at the US market, similar situation where the Infotech sector led us
-
00:01:53higher while energy was trying to pull us back down.
-
00:01:57Now the big winner in Infotech was Broadcom, which was up over 6% on the day.
-
00:02:02On the Dow it was Intel was the big winner up over 5%.
-
00:02:07And on the SP 500 after Broadcom, we had Oracle up nearly 6% on the day.
-
00:02:13So those were the big winners in the tech sector.
-
00:02:16Looking at Tesla, tesla had an inside day, still trying to break through 250.
-
00:02:20It's trading just above it this morning at 251.
-
00:02:2350.
-
00:02:25So we're trying to break out.
-
00:02:26If we can do that, then 265.
-
00:02:2863 would be our next target to the upside for Tesla.
-
00:02:33Let's finish off this morning's presentation looking at the most popular
-
00:02:37commodity ETFs, starting with the USO, which had a big down day yesterday.
-
00:02:41So we are back on a sell signal for the USO.
-
00:02:44Back on a sell signal for gasoline, still on a sell signal for natural gas.
-
00:02:48That would change on Tuesday with a close above 6.44. Then looking at the GLD still
-
00:02:54on a sell signal here that would change on Tuesday with a close above 182.
-
00:02:5996.
-
00:03:01Not expecting a buy signal for Palladium or for Platinum on Tuesday.
-
00:03:06And we still have silver on a buy signal that would change on Tuesday with a close
-
00:03:10below $21.62. Okay, folks, that is all for this morning's presentation.
-
00:03:16I'm going to be out of the office for the rest of the day, so I'm going to miss
-
00:03:20whatever volatility we see from the CPI numbers at 830 this morning.
-
00:03:25Have a great day.
-
00:03:26Next time you'll hear my voice is on Wednesday morning.
