00:00:00Good morning everyone, and welcome to Thursday morning.
-
00:00:02It's Stephen Whiteside here from the uptrend.com. In the pre market this
-
00:00:07morning, stock index futures and commodities are mixed.
-
00:00:09We've got the Nasdaq futures trading lower
-
00:00:11while we've got gold trading higher on Thursday morning.
-
00:00:15While yesterday we saw the VIX continue to move higher, hasn't taken out the recent
-
00:00:21high, but it closed above the upper channel line.
-
00:00:23So we are back on a buy signal that of course is negative for stocks.
-
00:00:27North American markets were led lower yesterday by US Retail, followed by US
-
00:00:32Regional Banking and then Semiconductors which gapped lower.
-
00:00:37Then looking at the Dow, it is still on a buy signal.
-
00:00:40That would change on Thursday with a close below 373.09.
-
00:00:45Then the S&P 500 is back on a sell signal,
-
00:00:48joining the Nasdaq already on a sell signal.
-
00:00:51And then we saw aggressive selling in mid
-
00:00:54cap, small cap and micro cap stocks on Wednesday.
-
00:00:58Now the energy sector had a huge intraday reversal on Wednesday.
-
00:01:02Crude oil made a new low before reversing and closing higher on the day, joining
-
00:01:08natural gas which also moved up on the day.
-
00:01:10And it was the TSX Energy Sector that led
-
00:01:13the North American markets higher on Wednesday.
-
00:01:16It actually did that on the previous day
-
00:01:19and we got that nice big pop yesterday and traded above the open gap.
-
00:01:22So that open gap is no longer an area of resistance.
-
00:01:27Now the ishares for the TSX 60 were down
-
00:01:29slightly, still closing above the upper trend line.
-
00:01:32Things would change on Thursday with a
-
00:01:34close below $31.63. Now gold rolled over on Wednesday down over $30.
-
00:01:41And that joining silver which was already on a sell signal.
-
00:01:44And we saw gold and silver stocks continue to move lower on both sides of the border
-
00:01:49whether you're looking at the GDX or the XGD.
-
00:01:53Now looking at the most actively traded canadian stocks.
-
00:01:56Number one was the TD Bank, still closing at the upper channel line.
-
00:02:00Then we had a huge update for Suncor on Wednesday.
-
00:02:04We saw First Quantum continue to move higher up another 11%.
-
00:02:09Then we've got TC Energy back on a buy signal as of Wednesday's close.
-
00:02:13And we've got Baytex back on a buy signal as of Wednesday's close.
-
00:02:18Looking at the US most actives, we saw Tesla continue to move lower on Wednesday.
-
00:02:23Marathon dipped below the lower channel line before reversing.
-
00:02:28Then we had SoFI big down day there closing down nearly 14% on the day.
-
00:02:35Then we've got Ford back on a sell signal and we've got Advanced Micro Devices
-
00:02:39already on a sell signal continuing to move lower on Wednesday.
-
00:02:44Okay, folks, that is all for this morning's presentation.
-
00:02:47It looks like we're going to have a mixed
-
00:02:48open on Thursday, waiting for the rest of the market to continue to roll over.
-
00:02:54Enjoy the rest of your day.
-
00:02:55Next time you'll hear my voice is on Friday morning.
