-
00:00:00Good morning, everyone. Welcome to Wednesday morning.
-
00:00:02It's Stephen Whiteside here from TheUpTrend.
-
00:00:05com In the pre-market this morning, stock index futures are above fair value.
-
00:00:09Dow futures currently up 100 points.
-
00:00:11Commodities are mixed with a crude oil up
-
00:00:14while gold is down another $3 in the pre-market on Wednesday morning.
-
00:00:18Now, yesterday was a big day for the VIX, and we generated a buy signal on Monday,
-
00:00:23big fall through to the upside on Tuesday, and we certainly traded and closed above
-
00:00:28the $15 level that we were We're looking for.
-
00:00:30So yes, I think the market is paying attention to this move in the VIX.
-
00:00:34Seasonality, we're right on cue.
-
00:00:36We're supposed to make a low in the middle
-
00:00:38of February and then start to move up, and maybe that started yesterday.
-
00:00:42We'll just have to wait and see.
-
00:00:45Now, there's a lot of stuff going on in
-
00:00:46the market yesterday besides the stock market.
-
00:00:49We had Bitcoin making a new high.
-
00:00:51It ended the day down $815.
-
00:00:55It's up $2,000 today, making another new high for this move.
-
00:01:00We had a big shift in the US Dollar Index
-
00:01:02moving sharply higher while the Euro and the rest of the usual suspects, the
-
00:01:06Australian dollar, Canadian dollar, all moved lower on the day.
-
00:01:11Now, we had a huge sell-off in bonds on
-
00:01:13Tuesday, and of course, that puts pressure on bond deals, and that's probably what
-
00:01:19contributed to a lot of the downward pressure in the stock market yesterday.
-
00:01:23Now, crude oil continued to move higher.
-
00:01:25It hasn't taken out the January high just yet, but we are getting pretty close.
-
00:01:30Going in the opposite direction.
-
00:01:31Gold was down over $25 on Tuesday, making
-
00:01:35a new low for this move and trying to find support at the $2,000 level.
-
00:01:40Looking at the major indices, we've got
-
00:01:42the Dow back on a sell signal as of Tuesday's close.
-
00:01:46For the SPY, we're waiting for a close below $492.
-
00:01:5185.
-
00:01:52On Wednesday, for the triple cues, we're looking for a close below $426.
-
00:01:5782.
-
00:01:58For the Russell 2000, we're looking for a close on Wednesday below $193.
-
00:02:0474.
-
00:02:05And for the IWC, for the microcaps, we're looking for a close below $111.
-
00:02:1171 on Wednesday.
-
00:02:13Now, after having a bullish day on Monday.
-
00:02:16US Banks pulled back hard on Tuesday,
-
00:02:19looking to see if we can hold the recent support.
-
00:02:21That's also true of the Regional Banks, which again had a very bullish day on
-
00:02:26Monday, but no fall through to the upside on Tuesday.
-
00:02:29And we came down and looking to see if we can hold the low from last week.
-
00:02:35Now, what worked or what didn't work yesterday?
-
00:02:37Well, nothing worked.
-
00:02:37Consumer Discretionary was the worst performing sector.
-
00:02:41We've got Consumer Discretionary still on a buy signal here.
-
00:02:44That would change on Wednesday with a close below $175.
-
00:02:4826.
-
00:02:49The biggest loser in the Consumer
-
00:02:51Discretionary sector was Carmax trading into the channel.
-
00:02:55So we're looking for a close on Wednesday below $71.
-
00:02:5950.
-
00:03:00Next up, let's take a look at the mining sector, starting with the price of copper,
-
00:03:04which closed lower on the day after trading up into the channel.
-
00:03:08Copper miners made a new low yesterday.
-
00:03:11Then looking at the price of gold, as we
-
00:03:13mentioned, it was down over $25 yesterday, trying to hold 2000.
-
00:03:17And there's the GLD down $2.
-
00:03:1958 on Tuesday and trying to hold the 184 level.
-
00:03:25Looking at the gold miners, they were down sharply yesterday.
-
00:03:29The junior gold Miners were down sharply.
-
00:03:31And of course, going in the other
-
00:03:33direction are the bear ETFs moving sharply higher on Tuesday.
-
00:03:38Then looking at the price of silver, the SLV moved lower yesterday, and Silver
-
00:03:44Miners made a new low for this move on Tuesday.
-
00:03:47Let's finish off looking at a couple of
-
00:03:49the magnificent eight stocks, starting off with Apple, which had never generated a
-
00:03:53buy signal, so we're not waiting for a sell signal.
-
00:03:56We've been on a sell signal for a few weeks now.
-
00:03:59Now we've Microsoft back on a sell signal as of Tuesday's close.
-
00:04:03We've got Shopify back on a sell signal,
-
00:04:05and we've got Tesla back on a sell signal as of Tuesday's close.
-
00:04:09So Tesla just lasted a couple of days, and that was it.
-
00:04:13And now we're looking to see if the recent low can hold.
-
00:04:17Okay, folks, that is all for this morning's presentation.
-
00:04:20It looks like we're going to get a bounce on Wednesday morning.
-
00:04:23There isn't any real economic numbers coming out this morning that's going to
-
00:04:26affect the overall stock market, so we'll just have to wait and see.
-
00:04:30But I think today could be a pause day
-
00:04:32before we start heading lower again on Thursday.
